What's in Season in April?

Strawberries

Strawberries, delightful red gems of nature, have captivated palates for centuries. With their luscious sweetness and vibrant colour, they are a true springtime treat. This seasonal fruit is part of the Rosaceae family and Fragaria genus and it grows in between cool and warm weather. Cultivated across the globe, strawberries are not only delicious but also packed with health benefits, and the good news is there’s plenty of tasty strawberry recipes to try out.

These versatile berries can be enjoyed fresh, in jams, smoothies, or baked goods, enhancing any culinary creation. Their allure goes beyond taste, as strawberries symbolize love and purity in various cultures.

Health Benefits

Since strawberries are mostly made up of water, their fat and carbohydrates components are very low. Even though they taste very sweet, they contain simple sugars which are not considered as a threat to blood sugar levels. Their fibre component is also important for good digestive health and can prevent many diseases.

The following are the most abundant vitamins and minerals in strawberries:

  • Vitamin C – For a strong immune system and healthy skin.
  • Manganese
  • Folate (Vitamin B9) – Supports tissue growth and healthy functioning of cells.
