Gouda Pittig

Background

Pittig is a matured variety of the classic Dutch cheese, Gouda, known for its bold and rich flavours. Typically aged for at least a year, this cheese develops a firm, slightly crumbly texture with a deep amber colour. Its taste profile is characterized by a sharpness and a hint of caramel-like sweetness, alongside notes of butterscotch and toasted nuts. This complexity makes it a favourite among cheese enthusiasts. Gouda Pittig's ability to melt smoothly enhances its suitability for culinary uses, adding a rich, flavourful depth to baked dishes, sauces, and gratins. It proves to be a standout ingredient in any recipe that requires a robust cheese profile.

Cheese Board

Pairing

Gouda Pittig, with its mature and robust flavour profile, pairs exceptionally well with a variety of beverages and foods. Its sharp, caramel sweetness and toasted nut undertones make it a perfect match for full-bodied red wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz, complementing its richness. For beer lovers, a dark stout or a rich porter can balance its bold flavours with their deep, malty notes. In terms of food, Gouda Pittig enhances the taste of fruity accompaniments like figs or pears, and its strong character stands up well against smoked meats or rich, dark bread, creating a delightful contrast in any culinary pairing.
