Peaches

What's in season in June?

Peaches

Peaches are in season in June as they grow best when they receive lots of direct sunlight, in slightly acidic soil and being watered twice a week in the summer months. Like strawberries, they are also a part of the Rosaceae family, but part of the Prunus genus.

Health Benefits

Thought to have originated in China more than eight 8,000 years ago, peaches are rich in vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds, providing numerous health benefits. Antioxidants in ripe peach plant compounds slow down the effects of ageing and prevent disease. Their fibre component also supports a healthy digestive system.

Eating fruit in general, including peaches, is beneficial for the heart by controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Even though they love the sun for themselves, they help protect us from its harmful effects by promoting healthy skin and limit the growth of cancerous cells.

During allergy seasons, peaches can reduce symptoms by preventing the release of histamines in the blood and boosting our immunity.
