Maltese Bread
Available from The Boulanger Bakery counter at Arkadia Foodstore Portomaso

Maltese bread, known locally as "Ħobż tal-Malti," is a culinary treasure that reflects the rich history and unique flavours of the Maltese islands in the Mediterranean. This traditional bread is more than just sustenance; it's a symbol of Maltese culture and tradition.
The local bread is characterized by its round shape and thick, crispy crust. It has a wonderfully soft and slightly chewy interior with a delightful, rustic flavour. What makes it truly distinctive is the use of a sourdough starter, which imparts a tangy taste and an airy crumb structure.
Baking Maltese bread is a time-honoured craft, often passed down through generations. It's typically made with just a few basic ingredients, such as flour, water, salt, and the sourdough culture, making it a pure and wholesome staple.
This bread is versatile and can be enjoyed in various ways, from serving as the perfect accompaniment to traditional Maltese dishes like rabbit stew to being the base for mouth-watering sandwiches. The warm, comforting aroma of freshly baked Maltese bread is an invitation to savour a slice of Maltese history and culture.
