Wine Pairing

Pairings You Did Not Expect For Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a renowned red wine grape variety known for its elegant and complex flavours. Grown in various wine regions worldwide, it produces wines with notes of red fruits, floral aromas, and subtle earthiness. Pinot Noir is often favoured for its versatility, making it a beloved choice among wine enthusiasts.

You will know you have a premium selection of Pinot Noir when the wine is aromatic, with its primary flavours ranging from red berries to mushroom, clove, and hibiscus. The best, well-aged Pinot Noir comes from Burgundy in France, but fruitier and more affordable variations come from the USA, New Zealand, Chile, and Australia. Pinot Noir is internationally celebrated on 18th August.

Charcuterie Boards

If you are serving your charcuterie board with an elegant, aged Pinot Noir, you should incorporate a selection of earthy cheeses with herbal flavours, cured meats and pâté. Good choices include aged Camembert cheese, salami, and prosciutto.

Seafood

Avoid delicate seafood dishes with Pinot Noir, however, tasteful pairings could incorporate shellfish like scallops, lobster, and shrimp. Delicious fish pairings also include tuna, trout, salmon, or smoked fish.

Barbecue

The cherry flavour of the wine complements the sweet and smoky flavours of South American style barbecue. Pinot Noir pairs particularly well with barbecued pork or chicken, and skewers, adding a little bacon here and there.

Lamb

Pair a leg or a rack of lamb, served with fresh herbs, with a medium-bodied bottle of Pinot Noir. It is also suggested to serve lamb souvlaki or herb-infused lamb sausages. For sides, you may go for roasted asparagus or caramelised brussels sprouts.

A wide variety of quality ingredients are available from Arkadia supermarkets in Malta and Gozo, including Arkadia FoodExpress Swatar and Arkadia Food Market Valletta.
